Ceesay Sees Goal Ruled Out as St. Pauli Draw at Cottbus

Gambian forward Abdoulie Ceesay had a goal ruled out for offside as FC St. Pauli drew 1-1 away to Energie Cottbus in the German 2. Bundesliga on Sunday.

Ceesay thought he had given St. Pauli an early lead after just three minutes when he raced onto a long pass from David Nemeth and calmly finished past Cottbus goalkeeper Marcel Lotka.

However, the goal was disallowed for offside, with a subsequent VAR review confirming the decision.

The Gambian continued to pose a threat in the opening stages, including an effort that went over the crossbar, as St. Pauli looked to exploit Cottbus on the counter-attack.

St. Pauli were reduced to 10 men in the 21st minute after Tomoya Ando received a second yellow card.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Ceesay remained involved in St. Pauli’s attacking moves and was part of another promising counter-attack in the 34th minute that was eventually cleared by the Cottbus defence.

The Gambian forward was substituted in the 58th minute, with Kaars coming on in his place.

The 1-1 draw leaves St. Pauli with seven points from six matches as the 2. Bundesliga heads into the international break.
