Organisers of the Cape Maclear International Film Festival (CMIFF) hosted a screening session for the Malawian television series Agent Limwado at the creative hub Pabwalo in Lilongwe.

According to the event organisers, the screening brought together film enthusiasts and community members who came to appreciate the series for free.

“Agent Limwado has garnered attention for blending humour with hard-hitting truths about money, family and survival in contemporary Malawi. The production provided an engaging centrepiece for the afternoon programme,” reads in part communication from CMIFF.

The event also featured a poetry recital by Osbert Kodo.

In a separate interview yesterday, CMIFF public relations officer Patuma Daud said they decided to host the session to facilitate an engagement with the youth.

She said: “We saw a gap in safe and positive spaces where young people can learn and enjoy themselves after school or during weekends.

“Instead of leaving the youth with nothing to do, we wanted to bring them stories into their community.”

Daud said the content they choose covers topics such as career inspiration, health, environmental protection and life skills development.

She said they were encouraged by the response they received, evidenced by the huge number of people that patronised the screening.

Daud said another screening session has been slated for June 28 at Mai Mbambande. The CMIFF is scheduled to take place from October 15 to 17.
