Da Project and Gunners seal important game-one win in basketball association playoffs finals

Da Project stunned defending champions Flyers while Cedar Grove Gunners outscored Ovals as both teams took crucial one-nil leads in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association’s (ABBA) best of five Playoffs Finals on Thursday night.

Contesting the feature game of a double-header, Da Project rallied to an 86-79 triumph over Flyers, winning the opening game by seven points. This was thanks to a huge fourth quarter effort that saw Da Project outscore the defending champions, 33-21. Da Project had also claimed the opening quarter 21-15 before Flyers rebounded to take the second and third quarters 19-12 and 24-20, respectively.

Cornell Greenwood led all efforts for Da Project with a game-high of 27 points while grabbing 10 rebounds to complete a double-double. Terry Dawkins contributed with 24 points and four rebounds while there were 15 and 12 points from Malik Moore and T-Shawn Lewis, respectively. Moore also grabbed seven rebounds while Lewis had five.

In a losing effort, Xavier Meade sank 23 points and grabbed five rebounds for Flyers. Adonis Humphreys contributed with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while there were 11 points and 18 rebounds for Nick Moore.

Meanwhile, Gedar Grove Gunners enjoyed a 70-66 victory over Ovals Ojays 2 as they got off to a winning starts in their five-game series.

Tyras Grayman led for Gunners with 15 points on six of 11 shooting while also grabbing 19 rebounds. He had help from Shawn Thomas who scored 14 points and bagged 21 rebounds off the bench while there was 12 points and eight rebounds for Keaddy Martin.

In a losing effort, Yohhan Nicholas hit a game-high of 26 points on 12 of 16 shooting and held 11 rebounds for Ojays. Tajahron Davis picked up 19 points, also in the losing effort.

Game two of both series will be contested on Sunday with game three scheduled for May 26th.
