THE City of Surrey has finalized lease agreements for its first two community medical clinics, marking a major step toward giving residents greater access to family doctors and primary care.
“These first two clinics are concrete step toward making sure more Surrey residents can see a family doctor when they need one,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke on Tuesday. “Too many people in our city don’t have reliable access to primary care. These clinics will help connect families and individuals with physicians they can rely on for the long term.”
Council has approved five-year lease agreements for clinical spaces in City Centre and Newton, to be operated by Total Life Care Granville Medical Inc. (TLC) under the partnership model endorsed by Council in February.
The City Centre clinic will be located at #210, 10362 King George Boulevard in a 2,000-square-foot unit alongside a Fraser Health public health unit and other health-care providers. The Newton clinic will be located at 12757 76 Avenue in a newly built 2,900-square-foot commercial space. Once up and running, each clinic is expected to accommodate approximately 10 physicians.
“With the locations secured, we can now move ahead with preparing the clinic spaces and welcoming physicians,” said Joey Brar, General Manager of Corporate Services. “Our goal is to have the clinics ready to begin seeing patients as soon as possible.”
The clinics are anticipated to open this fall, subject to construction timelines and regulatory approvals.
