A handsome win by Gros Islet has them sitting pretty atop the standings of the Saint Lucia Football Association’s Northern Zone Under-20 Men’s District Tournament.

Gros Islet beat neighbours Babonneau 8-1 on Wednesday night at the Grande Riviere Playing Field. Meanwhile, Marchand got their first points with a 4-0 triumph over Central Castries.
Gros Islet went into halftime with a 3-1 advantage over Babonneau, in spite of missing key players on senior national duty. Rickelme Lionel hit a first-half hat-trick, ironic, given that he hails from Fond Assau, Babonneau, and is a product of New Generation FC.
Netting in the second, third, and 28th minutes, 19-year-old Lionel was on fire early, his output offset only by a Lamar Cazaubon strike in the 38th minute. In the 50th minute, Under-20 international Nyel Fontenelle made it 4-1 for Gros Islet, immediately followed by a Naheem Remy own goal. Lionel popped up again in the 53rd minute for a fourth goal. Kendrick Antoine and Dervaj Edward added to the deluge in the 74th and 76th minutes, respectively.
Earlier on Wednesday, Marchand came back from an earlier 3-1 reversal to Gros Islet, blanking Central Castries to earn their first points. McLain Hippolyte, Kimanie St Rose, Edson Nicholas, and Shervon King all scored in the Castries derby.
After the early returns in this competition, Gros Islet join La Clery on six points each. Marchand and Babonneau have three points apiece, whilst Central Castries are yet to earn their first points.
