ON Monday, July 14 at approximately 1:15 p.m., Langley RCMP responded to a report that a man had discharged a firearm within a residence located in the 26400-block of 29B Avenue.
Police said that due to the nature of the incident, the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) was deployed to the scene. Officers contained the area and engaged in negotiations with the suspect, resulting in a standoff that lasted several hours.
While working to de-escalate the situation, the suspect discharged a firearm at the IERT Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) from inside the residence. At approximately 8:30 p.m., the situation was safely resolved. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local area hospital for assessment.
“This was a dynamic and potentially dangerous situation, but thanks to the professionalism and patience of our responding officers and the coordinated efforts of the Integrated Emergency Response Team, it was brought to a safe conclusion,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of Langley RCMP. “Public safety is our top priority, and we’re grateful that no one was hurt.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and a search warrant is being executed on the residence, police said.
