Vipers’ dream of defending their league and cup double comes under scrutiny when they face their nemesis Kitara at the Royal Park Butema in the first leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup semi-final.
The Sunday clash will be about gaining advantage over the other ahead of the second leg that will come in close two weeks’ time.
With five points behind Vipers in the premier league, the hosts, the only side with a ‘win’ over Vipers, albeit from the boardroom this season come into this fixture desperate aware that this could be their only chance for silverware this season.
The only meeting on the field of play this season ended in a goalless draw at Kitende, a game characterized by physical aggression from both sets of players.
Jacky Ivan Minaert was angered by Kitara’s physical approach and after the semi-final draw, he threw jibes to the opponents appealing they play football this time round.
“We hope this time, they play football,” Minnaert told media.
In the aftermath of the 1-1 draw with KCCA, exclusively speaking to Kawowo Sports, the Belgian said he is confident of getting a result from Hoima.
“We have a plan and we shall execute it to get the desired result to take home,” said Minaert.
Meanwhile, Kitara assistant coach Wasswa Bbosa understands how good Vipers is but believes playing at home gives his side the advantage.
“They are one of the best sides in the division but we have prepared well and sure we can get a good result,” said Bbosa.

Murushid Jjuuko and Isa Lumu were rested against SC Villa and could feature from the start.
For Vipers, the coach has a decision to make on whether to start Usama Arafat ahead of Yunus Sentamu who started the last three matches.
