The defending champions recovered from a slow start to remain unbeaten ahead of a highly anticipated final-day clash against hosts Kenya.
Nairobi, Kenya (28 May 2026) – The South Africa Women’s National Rugby Union team is still unbeaten at the 2026 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup, but they definitely had to work for this one.
After a shaky start against Uganda in Nairobi, where the defending champions suddenly found themselves 12-0 down early on, South Africa eventually settled into the match and powered their way to an impressive 47-20 victory to stay firmly on course for another continental title.

And right at the heart of the comeback was Logan Welman, who delivered another standout performance to walk away with Player of the Match honours.
Welman was one of the players helping South Africa shift momentum with two early tries through Peace Lekuru and Unity Namulala. But once the South Africans found their rhythm, there was no slowing them down.
The win now sets up a blockbuster final-day showdown against hosts Kenya, who also remained unbeaten after running riot in a dominant 57-0 victory over Madagascar.
With both teams yet to lose at the tournament, all roads now lead to what promises to be an exciting title decider on Sunday.
The tournament has already carried plenty of emotion, too.
Before a ball was even kicked earlier in the week, players and supporters paused for a minute’s silence in honour of former Springbok Women captain Lusanda Dumke, whose legacy continues to inspire women’s rugby across South Africa and the continent.
Now, with confidence building and another strong comeback victory behind them, the Springbok Women head into the final round knowing they are one win away from staying queens of African rugby once again.
