*The Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” continues to post strong results at the box office, building momentum more than a month into its theatrical run.
The film, led by Jaafar Jackson and released widely on April 24, has now spent six weekends in cinemas and reached a major global milestone. Its worldwide earnings have surpassed $850 million, positioning it among the top-performing music biopics ever released, according to KoiMoi. In North America, the movie added $11.7 million during its sixth weekend. That total reflects a 43.2% drop from the previous frame and comes as the film played in fewer theaters, following a reduction of 188 locations.
Despite the decline, its domestic performance continues to grow steadily. The film has now accumulated $339.9 million in the U.S. and Canada, pushing it ahead of the domestic total of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” which ended its run at $337.1 million.

With that result, “Michael” has moved into third place among Lionsgate’s highest-grossing releases in North America. Industry projections suggest the film is likely to cross the $350 million domestic mark in the coming days if its current trajectory continues.
Internationally, “Michael” continued to show stronger endurance than its domestic run, adding $20.1 million overseas in the latest weekend. That represents a 30.9% dip compared to the previous frame, a softer decline than what the film saw in North America. The movie is currently playing across 83 international markets, where it has now generated a total of $511.4 million. When combined with its domestic earnings, the global haul has climbed to $851.3 million after six weekends, according to Box Office Mojo.
That worldwide total also marks a notable shift in the biopic rankings. With its current performance, “Michael” has overtaken the final global gross of the Chinese film “Hi Mom,” which previously held third place among the highest-earning biopics with $821.7 million. As a result, “Michael” has now moved ahead of that benchmark in the all-time standings.
With momentum still carrying the film forward, the $900 million threshold appears attainable in short order. Analysts note that a strong showing in Japan and Russia could ultimately push the total past $1 billion.
