Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott and the Mayor’s Office of Arts, Culture and Entertainment  (MOACE) announced new dates for Charm City Live and the Baltimore Book Festival, two of the city’s premier fall festivals, on June 15.

The fifth annual Charm City Live, a celebration of community, music and culture, will take place over Labor Day weekend on Sept. 5. The Book Festival, a weekend bringing authors and readers together to push literary exploration, will occur Sept.19-20.

The new festival schedule demonstrates the city’s continuing commitment to advancing its cultural economy and creating unforgettable memories for its residents and visitors, officials said. By intentionally placing festivals throughout the month of September, the city will maximize attendance, broaden promotional opportunities and allow for additional time for planning and coordination, providing a greater impact for artists, authors, local businesses, performers, vendors and city agencies.

“Baltimore’s story has always been shaped by its artists, musicians, authors, and creative entrepreneurs,” said Scott in a press release. “Charm City Live and the Baltimore Book Festival celebrate the talent, culture, and community that make our city unique. As we continue investing in Baltimore’s creative economy, these events help strengthen neighborhoods, support local businesses, and invite people from across the region to experience the very best of our city.”

Since its inaugural year in 2022, Charm City Live has served as a celebration of Baltimore, embodying the rich culture that defines the city. Taking place in Downtown Baltimore, the free outdoor festival presents a day of cultural experiences that showcase the neighborhoods, entrepreneurs, musicians and artists that influence the culture of the city.

The Baltimore Book Festival is a weekend-long forum uniting readers, literary organizations, independent bookstores, recognized authors and local writers in one place for literary discovery, family-friendly activities, book signings and more. The festival, which originated in 1995, has always served to promote literacy and the arts across Baltimore. This year, the festival remains true to its literary tradition, while using the written word,  storytelling and learning to connect communities.

“Charm City Live and the Baltimore Book Festival each represent a different facet of Baltimore’s creative community,” noted MOACE Director Linzy Jackson in a press release. “Together, they create opportunities to celebrate our artists, authors, performers, entrepreneurs, and neighborhoods while strengthening the traditions and creative infrastructure that make Baltimore such a dynamic and inspiring city.”

Information for festival programming, vendors, participants and special announcements will be released over the coming months. Residents and visitors are instructed to monitor festival communications channels as they prepare to enjoy a September dedicated to celebrating community, literacy and music.
