RESIDENTS and visitors to Vancouver will now have an opportunity to explore nature from a different angle as two new experiences are coming to Queen Elizabeth Park.

At last night’s Vancouver Park Board meeting, Commissioners approved the installation of a new tree canopy walkway and zipline in the park with the goals of sustainability, education, conservation, and revenue generation all in mind.

“These experiences will not only add to the thrill of visiting the park, but they will also offer new viewpoints for us to enjoy nature,” said Park Board Chair Tom Digby. “We are continuing to deliver on our commitment to enhancing our parks with these additions.”

Greenheart, a Vancouver-based company with a global portfolio, will design and deliver these eco-attractions, which include a 300-metre tree canopy walk, a 120-metre zipline, a visitor centre, mobile food services, and a seasonal tour bus service connecting Queen Elizabeth Park and VanDusen Botanical Garden with Granville Island.

Set to open this summer, these experiences which align well with the Board’s “Think Big” Revenue Strategy and will be priced on average between $16 and $20 per person and will also be included as part of the Park Board’s Leisure Access Program.

These experiences will engage park users in new ways while building on the success and popularity of the zipline activation in Queen Elizabeth Park in 2015.
