*NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs was acquitted Tuesday, May 5 (2026), on all charges in his high-profile assault trial, marking a complete legal victory for the former New England Patriot.

A jury in Dedham District Court found Diggs not guilty of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery. The deliberation lasted approximately 90 minutes before the not-guilty verdicts were returned.

“This is a complete victory for Diggs, who has maintained his innocence from the beginning,” his legal team said following the ruling.

The charges originated from an alleged December 2025 incident involving Diggs’ former live-in personal chef, Mila (Jamila) Adams. Adams had accused Diggs of slapping her and placing her in a headlock during a dispute over unpaid wages. Her testimony spanned several hours on the first day of the trial.

However, during cross-examination, Diggs’ defense attorneys presented what they called “receipts for days” — including text messages, payment records, and witness statements — that contradicted Adams’ account.

Diggs’ attorney argued that the accusations were “completely false” and financially motivated, stemming from a separate dispute over employment terms. The defense did not call Diggs to the stand, instead relying on documentary evidence and the inconsistencies in Adams’ testimony.

The Verdict and Reactions

The trial lasted just two days — an unusually fast pace for a case that had received significant media attention since Diggs’ arrest earlier this year. The New England Patriots released Diggs amid the legal proceedings, making him a free agent heading into the 2026 season.

As the verdict was read, Diggs appeared emotional, hugging his legal team and wiping tears from his eyes. He did not address reporters outside the courthouse, but his attorney released a brief statement: “Stefon is grateful for the jury’s careful attention to the facts. He looks forward to returning his full focus to football and his family.”

Reactions online were swift and divided. On social media platform Lipstick Alley, one user wrote: “No one should be surprised by the verdict. The former chef did a horrible job on the stand, and Stefon’s lawyers had receipts for days.”

Another commenter offered a darker take: “Lord he back on the streets being a menace and slinging dirty d everywhere.” A third added bluntly: “I know he bout to get somebody pregnant tonight after being found not guilty.”

Supporters of Diggs celebrated the outcome as justice served, pointing to the short deliberation time as evidence of a weak prosecution case. Critics, however, questioned whether the legal system had adequately protected Adams, who left the courthouse without speaking to reporters.

Domestic violence advocacy groups issued cautious statements, with one Boston-area organization saying: “A not-guilty verdict does not always mean an incident did not occur. We continue to support all survivors regardless of legal outcomes.”

What Comes Next for Diggs

With the charges dismissed, Diggs is now free to sign with any NFL team for the remainder of the 2026 season. Multiple league insiders have reported that at least three teams have already expressed interest, though no formal offers have been announced.

Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, was released by the Patriots earlier this year under the league’s personal conduct policy pending the trial’s outcome. That restriction no longer applies.

His agent released a brief statement Tuesday evening: “Stefon is ready to play football. The truth has prevailed.”
