Patricia D. James Secondary School ended Reading Month 2026 activities with a Guest Reader Initiative on Thursday, May 21, following the theme Reading Reimagined.
In its second year, the initiative is becoming a key event for the school, helping students see the value of literacy and learn from people with different backgrounds and careers.
A press release said that before the main event, a special preview took place on Wednesday, May 20, with author and scholar Amanie Mathurin. Top English students and young writers attended, giving them a chance to improve their skills, discuss texts and get inspired by an experienced writer.
The main event of Reading Month was Thursday’s Guest Reader Initiative. Professionals from different fields visited classrooms in several grades, sharing their stories and experiences. Their visits helped students see reading as a way to connect, be creative, and grow.
Guest readers included Kerdy St Luce, an automotive expert; Krishna Henry, a content creator; Christa St Ange, a former pageant queen; Anna-Kaye Boodho, general manager of Orbtronics; Kennedy “Boots” Samuel, a cultural practitioner; Dr Lucilla Charles, a gynaecologist and obstetrician; Christine Henry, country coordinator for Helen’s Daughters; and Junior Delice, a youth advocate.
The school thanks all the guest readers, facilitators, and organisers who helped make the event meaningful and memorable.
“As Patricia D. James Secondary School continues to champion literacy and holistic student development, Reading Month 2026 stands as a testament to its commitment to innovation, community engagement and educational excellence,” the press release stated.
