OPPOSITION Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) claims unknown hitmen this Saturday disrupted a Women’s Assembly meeting in Bulawayo, where several members were stoned.
The meeting was to discuss the contentious Constitutional Amendment Number 3, which among other things seeks to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office.
The gang allegedly unleashed violence on the MDC members and pelted them with stones.
MDC president Douglas Mwonzora took to social media to confirm the development.
“Some hired thugs are currently attacking the MDC Women Assembly meeting at the Provincial Offices in Bulawayo. The women are commemorating the International Women’s Day. The attackers made it clear that they are against the party stance on (Constitutional) Amendment 3.
“The police are standing and watching while thugs are pelting members of the MDC Women’s Assembly with stones at a meeting… This is retribution for our stance on 2030 agenda,” wrote Mwonzora on X.
The attacks against MDC activists comes hard on the heels of assaults on opposition National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader, Lovemore Madhuku, and members of his party.
