Centurion battle Kifaru, Pak Shaheens face off with Tornado in Bronze Division semifinals

Cricket Uganda 50 Over League | Bronze Division Semifinals | Sunday, June 21

  • Pak Shaheens vs. Tornado – Florida Oval
  • Centurion vs. Kifaru – Lugogo Oval

The stakes are high this weekend in the Cricket Uganda 50 Over League Bronze Division semifinals, with the winners guaranteed a place in the Silver Division next season.

The four teams in the semifinals have undoubtedly been the best sides in the Bronze Division, but two sides will miss out on promotion.

Tornado has managed to string together some great results in the groups, finishing second behind Centurion, and they will need a big shift if they are going to take down unbeaten Pak Shaheens.

Pak Shaheens has its roots in the Pakistani community in Uganda. They have been a high-scoring team, and for Tornado to have a chance in the game, they will need to stop the flow of runs.

Pak Shaheens will be without some of the players that got them to this stage, but they made sure they bring some from within the region for the crunch game. On the small Florida Oval, the battle will be won by the team with the most runs. The boundaries are easy to access at Florida Oval, so bowling will not be a big advantage, but runs on the board will win the game.

In the other semifinal, Centurion will be desperate to win this one off against Kifaru, who finished second behind Pak Shaheens, but have also scored so many runs to get this far.

Centurion never dropped a game in the group games, but their undoing is coming out of a not-so-strong group, so they have not been well tested. They will have to dig deep from within to be able to find the win, and they will have the experience of Fred Achellam, Arnold Tembo, Brian Masaba and the youth of Ali Balidawa, Conrad Lubwama to get them over the line.

Centurion and Kifaru have the advantage of playing in Lugogo, but the dry season has made sure the outfield is very dry and the wicket a batting paradise, so whoever scores the most runs will be the winner of the game.

The prize at stake for the winners will be a place in the Silver Division next year, while the losers will have to wait for another year to battle for promotion.
