Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabiso Monyane says the team remains fully focused on ending the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season on a high as Amakhosi prepare for an important away fixture against Siwelele FC in Bloemfontein on Wednesday evening.

Following Sunday’s Soweto derby draw against Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs now shift attention to Toyota Stadium, where they aim to strengthen their hold on third place in the standings and move closer to securing continental football next season.

Spoils shared

Reflecting on the derby, Monyane said Kaizer Chiefs executed their strategy effectively, although both sides were ultimately forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

He stressed, however, that the clash against Siwelele carries equal significance.

Kaizer Chiefs currently enjoy solid momentum as they enter the final stretch of the campaign, and Monyane warned against underestimating their Bloemfontein-based opponents despite their lower league standing.

“We are not expecting an easy game and do not underestimate any opponents, we go out there and give it our best every time.”

The defender acknowledged the special football atmosphere in Bloemfontein, where supporters have long awaited the return of top-flight football.

For Kaizer Chiefs, who traditionally enjoy widespread support across South Africa, Monyane believes the team can expect strong backing in the Free State.

“Yes, of course. The football fans in Bloemfontein have been longing for football and now they’ve got it and as a Kaizer Chiefs player, you know the slogan and the culture that says you are always at home, so we are looking forward to seeing them in Bloemfontein for an exciting match.”

Maintain consistency

With just a handful of matches remaining, Kaizer Chiefs are aiming to maintain consistency and secure maximum points as they pursue a successful finish to the season.

Monyane said morale within the squad remains high, but emphasised the importance of staying grounded and taking each match as it comes.

“We have just played the Derby, but this is an equally important game. We have analysed them and have planned accordingly, and now we must go and execute it well again,” Monyane said, before concluding, “We are in the final stretch of the season, and it’s important for us to keep going. We have some good momentum going at the moment, the team is doing well; we are in a good space, spirits are high, without getting carried away. We take each game as it comes. We aim to finish on a high and make our supporters happy.”

Log standings

Amakhosi currently occupy third place on the league table with 47 points from 25 matches and remain unbeaten in their last seven outings.

A victory on Wednesday would take them to the significant 50-point milestone, strengthening their position in the race for continental football next season.

Their hosts, Siwelele FC, sit in 11th place on 29 points after 25 matches.

Kick-off between Siwelele FC and Kaizer Chiefs is scheduled for 19:30.
