A case of attempted murder has been opened at Omuthiya after a suspect was allegedly attacked by a man pretending to be drunk in the road.
National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says the incident happened between 00h00 and 01h00 on 1 May near the railway line at Omuthiya while the suspect was walking with his girlfriend.
According to the police, the man drew his pistol and fired a shot into the air, with additional rounds, striking the assailant in the right arm and ribs.
Both the complainant and suspect sustained serious injuries and are admitted at different hospitals for treatments. Both are in stable conditions.
In a separate event, a man was allegedly murdered on Thursday evening in the Okalongo constituency, after which his body was moved from the crime scene.
The victim has been identified as Johannes Sheehama.
“It is alleged that the suspect murdered the victim by striking him on the head,” Shikwambi says.
There was allegedly a second victim who was also attacked but survived after running away.
“The motive for the gruesome acts is unknown, and the deceased’s next of kin were informed,” Shikwambi says.
A second murder occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Osire refugee settlement.
A man (27) allegedly attacked a 25-year-old with a cement brick, causing severe head injuries.
“The victim was found unconscious in a pool of blood and transferred to Otjiwarongo State Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” Shikwambi says.
The weekend also saw five alleged attempted murders.
