Director Pink, born Praise Onyeagwalam, is a Nigerian film director, creative executive, producer, and educator who has emerged as one of the most influential visual storytellers in Africa. Widely regarded as one of the continent’s best-known female music video directors, she has built a reputation for creating visually striking productions that have helped shape the global image of Afrobeats and contemporary African music. Through her company, Pinkline Films, and her educational platform, Pinkline Academy, she continues to inspire a new generation of filmmakers while raising the standard of African visual storytelling.

Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Director Pink developed a passion for storytelling and filmmaking from a young age. She later earned a degree in Economics from the University of Lagos and further honed her craft at the London Film Academy. Her professional breakthrough came in 2020 when she entered the music video industry and quickly gained national attention for directing Running (To You) by Chike featuring Simi. The cinematic production became one of Nigeria’s most viewed music videos and established her as a rising force in the industry.
What followed was an extraordinary rise. Director Pink went on to direct acclaimed visuals for some of Africa’s biggest stars, including Wizkid, Davido, Mercy Chinwo, Timaya, Oxlade, Qing Madi, Lil Kesh and many others. Her portfolio includes major hits such as Abracadabra, Egwu, Spell, Ovami, Confidence, and Stranger, productions that have collectively amassed hundreds of millions of views across digital platforms while helping define the visual language of modern Afrobeats.

Beyond music videos, Director Pink has demonstrated remarkable versatility as a filmmaker. In 2021, she produced the horror short film Lady Koi Koi, inspired by the legendary Nigerian boarding school folklore. The project showcased her ability to move seamlessly between commercial music content and narrative filmmaking while remaining rooted in African stories and cultural experiences.
Her achievements have earned industry-wide recognition. She won Best Video Director at the 2023 AFRIMMA Awards, received the Outstanding Achievement in Direction for a Music Video award at the 2024 TurnTable Music Awards, and won Music Video of the Year at the 2025 Headies Awards for Egwu. She has also earned multiple nominations from The Headies, AFRIMMA, The Future Awards Africa, and other leading entertainment institutions, cementing her reputation as one of the most decorated female directors working in African music today.
Equally significant is her contribution to talent development. Through Pinkline Academy, she has trained and mentored hundreds of aspiring filmmakers from across Africa and beyond. The academy has become a respected platform for practical filmmaking education, empowering emerging creatives with industry knowledge, mentorship, and global exposure. Her commitment to education has positioned her not only as a successful filmmaker but also as a builder of the next generation of African storytellers.

In another major milestone, Director Pink recently received international recognition through a feature on CNN’s African Voices, where her journey, creative philosophy, and contribution to African visual culture were spotlighted for a global audience. The feature further reinforced her growing influence as one of the leading creative voices shaping Africa’s entertainment industry and expanding the global reach of African storytelling.
Today, Director Pink stands at the forefront of a new era in African filmmaking. Through award-winning productions, groundbreaking visuals, industry leadership, and a commitment to mentorship, she has transformed from a young creative with a dream into one of the continent’s most influential directors.
