NAIROBI: TANZANIA is expected to benefit from the upcoming AI EVERYTHING KENYA X GITEX KENYA conference, a major regional technology event aimed at advancing artificial intelligence and digital innovation across East Africa.

The three-day conference, scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from May 19 to 21, 2026, is expected to bring together global technology leaders, policymakers, investors, innovators and startups to discuss the future of AI and digital transformation in the region.

Kenya’s Special Envoy on Technology in the Office of the President, Mr Philip Thigo, said the conference would help East African countries build inclusive and sovereign AI ecosystems through regional collaboration.
He said cooperation among neighbouring countries, including Tanzania, would be vital in unlocking innovation and ensuring the digital economy benefits the wider region.

The event is being viewed as a strategic platform for East African countries, including Tanzania, also to attract investment and expand opportunities within the rapidly growing digital economy.

Among Tanzanian representatives expected to attend is the Director General of the ICT Commission, Dr Nkundwe Mwasaga, alongside several local technology companies and digital innovators.

Dr Mwasaga is expected to participate in discussions on regional digital transformation, innovation partnerships and strategies for positioning Tanzania as a key player in Africa’s emerging AI economy.

As head of the ICT Commission, Dr Mwasaga has been instrumental in advancing Tanzania’s digital transformation agenda and promoting technology adoption in both public and private sectors.

The conference is also expected to create new opportunities for Tanzanian startups and tech firms seeking investment, partnerships and access to larger regional markets.

With investors, venture capital firms and global technology companies attending the event, Tanzanian innovators will have an opportunity to showcase scalable solutions and attract funding for expansion.

The gathering will also provide exposure to major international firms, including Cisco, Fortinet and Mastercard, creating opportunities for partnerships, technology integration and knowledge exchange.

The participation in such regional forums is essential as East Africa increasingly positions itself as an interconnected digital market driven by innovation and technology.

The conference follows the recent Kenya–Tanzania Trade Forum held earlier this month, which underscored the importance of strengthening cross-border trade, investment and cooperation in high-growth sectors such as technology.
