By Zoila Palma: On May 28, 2026, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management and key partners including IOM Belize and the European Union inaugurated a new Polyclinic that will benefit about 6,000 residents from Duck Run 1, Duck Run 2, Duck Run 3, Billy White, Los Tambos, and Santa Familia, in the Cayo District.
The polyclinic is part of the “Building Climate Change Resilience and Social Integration of Displaced People in Settlements of Western Belize” Project.
This new facility is especially important for these 6 communities, as people no longer need to travel all the way to San Ignacio Town for medical help.
Additionally, the residents of these underserved communities will now get access to more affordable primary health care through the countrywide expansion of the National Health Insurance.
Duck Run 1 residents also celebrated the inauguration of their new hurricane shelter during the ceremony.
