President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kaziibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda, according to a press release issued by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU) on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

The announcement states that Justice Kawumi’s name has already been forwarded to Parliament for approval, in line with the constitutional appointment process.

In the same announcement, President Museveni also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar.

The appointments come at a time when the Judiciary continues to strengthen institutional leadership and improve the administration of justice across the country.

The Deputy Chief Justice is one of the top positions in Uganda’s Judiciary and is responsible for supervising the administration and management of courts, particularly the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court.

The Chief Registrar, on the other hand, oversees the day-to-day administration of the Judiciary and plays a key role in ensuring the efficient operation of court processes nationwide.

Further details regarding the appointments and the parliamentary vetting process are expected in the coming days.
