By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have arrested and charged 22-year-old Rushan Virez, a Belizean security guard of the Indianville Area in Punta Gorda Town, for allegedly keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license.
According to police, the incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, while officers were conducting mobile patrol on Front Street in Punta Gorda Town.
Police say their attention was drawn to two men on motorcycles. Upon seeing the police, both men reportedly sped off, prompting officers to pursue them. During the chase, one of the men fell off his motorcycle and attempted to escape on foot, but was quickly intercepted and subdued.
Police identified the man as Virez. A search of him and a black school bag he was carrying reportedly led to the discovery of a BRG9 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eighteen 9mm live rounds.
Virez was unable to produce a license for the firearm and ammunition. On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, police formally arrested and charged him for kept firearm without a gun license and kept ammunition without a gun license.
