Saint Lucian reportedly killed in St Vincent shooting

Police in St Vincent and the Grenadines are working with the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force to confirm the identity of a Saint Lucian man who was killed in a shooting in Great House, Lowmans Leeward, on Tuesday, June 23.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Atland Browne from the Criminal Investigation Department said officers were notified of the incident shortly after 6:00 p.m. and responded immediately.

“Yesterday, we received information just about ten minutes after 6 p.m. that there was a shooting incident in the Great House area,” Browne stated. “Officers were deployed, and on arrival, two persons were found to have been shot.”

He confirmed that both victims were taken to get medical treatment, but one of the men later died from his injuries.

“Another gentleman was shot in his face and succumbed to those injuries,” Browne said. Based on early information, the deceased is believed to be a Saint Lucian national, but his identity has not yet been officially confirmed, the officer said.

“At the moment, we do not have his correct name. We will be working closely with our counterparts in Saint Lucia to properly identify him,” he said.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, with forensic tests and other steps in progress to move the case forward.

“Investigations are progressing relatively smoothly, and hopefully in the near future we will have something positive to report to the public,” Browne said.

Authorities have not released more details about a motive or suspects, but say they are following all leads with help from regional law enforcement partners.
