DODOMA: THE Parliament of Tanzania has approved the Government’s General Budget amounting to 62.3tri/- for the 2026/27 financial year after receiving 385 votes in favour, representing 97 percent of all votes cast.
Announcing the voting results on June 23, 2026, Parliament Speaker Mussa Zungu said a total of 393 votes were expected, with 385 Members of Parliament voting in support of the budget, eight voting against it, while eight MPs were absent during the voting session.
The budget was presented to Parliament on June 11, 2026, by Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamisi Mussa Omar. It was debated for seven working days, from June 15 to June 23, 2026, before being concluded after Ambassador Omar and the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Professor Kitila Mkumbo, responded to various issues raised during the discussions.

Following the approval, Speaker Mussa Zungu urged the government to ensure that the Sh62.3 trillion budget is properly managed and used for the benefit of citizens.
He emphasized that Parliament will continue monitoring the implementation of the budget to ensure that its objectives are achieved and that public funds are utilized effectively, transparently, and responsibly.
