Barbados is about to add a major new all-inclusive resort to its lineup — and it’s a notable one.
Royalton Vessence Barbados, a new 220-suite, adults-only, all-inclusive resort on the island’s celebrated Platinum Coast, is set to open its doors on June 1, joining Marriott’s Autograph Collection as one of the brand’s newest all-inclusive properties in the Caribbean.
It’s a meaningful addition for Barbados, a destination that has historically leaned more toward European-style luxury hotels and boutique properties than the kind of large-format, all-inclusive resorts that dominate other parts of the Caribbean. The arrival of Royalton Vessence — and its Autograph Collection affiliation — signals a continued shift in the island’s hotel mix, and gives travelers a new, design-forward option on one of the most coveted stretches of coastline in the region.
The Property
Royalton Vessence Barbados sits along the island’s West Coast, the famed Platinum Coast (also known as the Gold Coast) — a stretch of calm Caribbean Sea, soft white sand and some of the most exclusive real estate in the Eastern Caribbean. The location places the resort about 30 minutes from Grantley Adams International Airport, tucked between quiet coves and the more active hotspots of the West Coast.
The property has 220 suites, all designed to lean adult-oriented and artistically curated — a positioning Royalton has been increasingly leaning into with its Vessence and Hideaway sub-brands, which target couples and adults-only travelers within the broader Royalton portfolio.
Suites include the brand’s signature Diamond Club category, which adds butler service, premium amenities and access to a private beach area, among other perks.
Inside the Autograph Collection
The Autograph Collection affiliation is a big part of the story.
Marriott’s Autograph Collection has grown into one of the largest soft-brand hotel collections in the world, with hundreds of independent properties operating under the Marriott umbrella while retaining distinctive identities. In recent years, the Autograph Collection has become a major vehicle for Marriott’s push into the all-inclusive segment — a category Marriott has been aggressively expanding through partnerships with operators like Royalton parent Blue Diamond Resorts, Sunwing and others — including a strong portfolio locally that includes properties like The House.
Several Royalton properties already operate as Autograph Collection all-inclusive resorts across the region, including in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and elsewhere in the Caribbean. The addition of Royalton Vessence Barbados extends that footprint to one of the most-requested island destinations in the wider Caribbean.
For travelers, the Marriott tie-in means Marriott Bonvoy members can earn and redeem points on stays, a meaningful perk that hasn’t always been available at large-format all-inclusive properties in Barbados.
The Food and Drink
Royalton Vessence Barbados is opening with 13 culinary offerings and four bars, an ambitious lineup that puts it on the higher end of dining variety for an all-inclusive of its size.
The resort is leaning into a locally-rooted, ingredient-driven culinary identity, with menus designed to spotlight Caribbean flavors, coastal traditions and handcrafted cocktails infused with local produce.
A standout element of the property is a panoramic rooftop, designed as a destination dining and drinks venue with sweeping views over the Caribbean. The rooftop pairs global flavors and craft cocktails with a more design-driven, sophisticated atmosphere than the typical resort buffet — a clear nod to the kind of traveler the property is targeting.
There’s also The Studio, an open-air space that hosts hands-on art and culinary experiences by day and shifts into live music and a more atmospheric setting by night.
Wellness and the Spa
Wellness is a core part of the Vessence positioning.
The Royal Spa at Royalton Vessence Barbados is being designed as a comprehensive wellness retreat rather than a traditional resort spa, with a menu of treatments, therapies and rituals built around what the brand is calling holistic harmony.
The property also includes Moddo Fitness by Royalton Fit, the brand’s wellness concept, with yoga, tai chi and guided sessions integrated into the daily programming. For travelers who want their all-inclusive stay to lean active and mindful — a growing segment across the Caribbean all-inclusive market — it’s an attractive setup.
The resort’s pools are also designed for both daytime relaxation and an after-dark experience, with late-night swimming built into the programming. Illuminated pools stay open into the evening, offering one of the more unique amenities in the new generation of Caribbean all-inclusives.
Why Barbados, Why Now
The opening comes at an interesting moment for Barbados.
The island has been one of the strongest-performing destinations in the Eastern Caribbean over the last several years, posting steady growth in stay-over arrivals out of both the United States and the United Kingdom. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, JetBlue and Delta Air Lines all operate nonstop service into Bridgetown, and the destination’s airlift continues to expand.
Barbados has also been making a concerted push to broaden its hotel mix beyond the traditional luxury and boutique segments that have long defined the island. The arrival of Royalton Vessence — alongside other recent and upcoming projects across the destination — adds depth to the all-inclusive category in particular, a segment that until recently was relatively underrepresented in Barbados compared to destinations like Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
The Platinum Coast location is no accident, either. The stretch of coastline is home to some of the most established and most exclusive resorts in the Caribbean, including Sandy Lane, The Sandpiper, Cobblers Cove and Coral Reef Club. Royalton Vessence Barbados is the first large-format all-inclusive in some time to position itself alongside that company.
Using Points
The Marriott Bonvoy integration is one of the more meaningful angles of the opening for points-and-miles travelers.
As a full participant in Marriott Bonvoy, Royalton Vessence Barbados will allow guests to both earn and redeem points on all-inclusive stays — including on the food, drinks and resort amenities bundled into the rate, not just the room. That’s a meaningful distinction from how many traditional hotel loyalty programs treat all-inclusive properties, and it makes the resort one of the more attractive options in Barbados for travelers sitting on a Bonvoy balance.
The resort is expected to fall into the mid-to-upper range of the Bonvoy award chart, in line with other Royalton Autograph Collection all-inclusive properties across the Caribbean and Mexico, which typically run from around 40,000 to 70,000 points per night depending on category and season. Bonvoy’s standard fifth-night-free benefit on award stays of five nights or longer also applies, which can stretch a points balance significantly on a full week in Barbados.
For travelers holding the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant, Bonvoy Bevy or Bonvoy Boundless credit cards, the property is also eligible for the standard suite of cardholder benefits, including elite status perks, point-earning multipliers on stays and free-night certificate redemptions where applicable.
It’s a useful tool for travelers looking to keep cash costs low on a Caribbean all-inclusive trip this summer — and another reason the Marriott affiliation is more than a branding exercise.
What to Do Nearby
The location gives guests easy access to many of the island’s most popular attractions.
The famed Mullins Beach is just to the north, and the lively dining and shopping scene of Holetown — home to the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, the St. James Parish Church and the original landing site of English settlers — is a short drive south. Speightstown, the island’s quieter, more historic northern town, is also nearby.
Further afield, Bridgetown, the UNESCO World Heritage capital, is about a 40-minute drive south, with the Garrison Historic Area, the Mount Gay Distillery and Carlisle Bay all worth a visit. The island’s East Coast — wilder, more dramatic and home to Bathsheba and the Soup Bowl surf break — sits about an hour from the resort.
For travelers who want to mix beach days with island exploration, the location works well.
The Bigger Picture
Royalton Vessence Barbados is part of a broader expansion strategy for the brand, which has been steadily rolling out new properties across the Caribbean and Mexico under several distinct sub-brands — Royalton CHIC, Royalton Reserve, Royalton Splash, Hideaway at Royalton and now Vessence — each targeting different segments of the all-inclusive market.
It’s also part of Marriott’s continued push to become a serious player in the all-inclusive space. Since launching its all-inclusive platform in 2021, the company has rapidly expanded the segment through partnerships and acquisitions, with the Autograph Collection serving as one of the primary vehicles for the growth.
For Barbados, the upshot is straightforward: a major new all-inclusive resort, in one of the best locations on the island, attached to one of the largest hotel loyalty programs in the world, opening at one of the strongest moments in the destination’s recent tourism history.
The June 1 opening also positions the property to capture peak summer travel, with rates at major Caribbean all-inclusives typically softer in the early summer window before pushing higher in late July and August.
For travelers looking for a new, design-forward all-inclusive option in Barbados this summer, Royalton Vessence is one of the most compelling new openings in the Caribbean right now.
Prices at Royalton Vessence Barbados
I found rates of $932 per night on Google Hotels for stays beginning with the opening. That gets you a Luxury Junior Suite, with a lounge, a minibar, a “DreamBed,” and a balcony with a view of either pools or gardens.
For a Diamond Club version of that room, the price goes up to $1,222.85 per night. For a swim-out room (which you know I love), the price goes up to $1,674.49 per night. That’s a hefty premium, especially considering rates on competing properties both locally and within the region.
