Thousands in Castries East and Gros-Islet to Get New Electricity Meters as LUCELEC Continues Major Upgrade Drive

Residents and businesses in communities across Castries East and Gros-Islet are being advised to prepare for a major meter replacement exercise as St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) rolls out the next phase of its islandwide infrastructure upgrade programme.

The utility company confirmed that replacement works will run from Thursday, May 14 to Monday, May 25, 2026, as part of an ongoing initiative launched in 2025 to modernize its metering systems and strengthen the reliability and efficiency of electricity services across Saint Lucia.

According to LUCELEC, the programme is designed to improve the company’s metering infrastructure while ensuring continued compliance with industry safety and quality standards. The company explained that the upgraded meters will maintain the accuracy of electricity usage readings while also contributing to a more efficient customer service experience.

LUCELEC emphasized that the replacement process will be carried out at no cost to customers, with technicians working to minimize disruptions during installation.

Under the rollout plan, customers scheduled for replacements will receive notification from LUCELEC at least 48 hours in advance. The installations will be conducted by uniformed technicians carrying official company identification.

The company indicated that, in most cases, the replacement process is expected to take approximately 30 minutes.

Customers are being urged to assist with the exercise by ensuring that electricity meters are accessible and free from obstruction ahead of scheduled visits.

LUCELEC says the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Saint Lucia’s electricity network and improve long-term service delivery to customers in growing residential and commercial communities.
