*A new trailer for “The Odyssey” has arrived, offering an early look at Christopher Nolan’s latest large-scale project. The film, described as a mythic action epic, brings Homer’s classic tale to the big screen using newly developed IMAX film technology.

Set for release on July 17, 2026, “The Odyssey” marks the first time the ancient story has been adapted specifically for IMAX film screens. The production was filmed across multiple global locations, with an emphasis on capturing the scale and intensity of the original narrative through practical filmmaking techniques.

The cast features a lineup of major names, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o, with additional appearances from Zendaya and Charlize Theron. The ensemble underscores the ambitious scale of the project, which blends mythological storytelling with action-driven spectacle.

Nolan, who wrote and directed the film, produced it alongside Emma Thomas under their company Syncopy, with Thomas Hayslip serving as executive producer. Reflecting on the project, Nolan described the story as having “a bit of everything in it,” pointing to its broad narrative scope.

Much of the film was shot at sea over a four-month period, a decision that shaped both the visuals and the storytelling. Nolan explained, “It’s vast and terrifying and wonderful and benevolent, as the conditions shift. We really wanted to capture how hard those journeys would have been for people. And the leap of faith that was being made in an unmapped, uncharted world.”

He added, “By embracing the physicality of the real world in the making of the film, you do inform the telling of the story in interesting ways…because you’re confronted on a daily basis by the world pushing back at you.”

With its focus on practical effects and large-format presentation, “The Odyssey” is positioned as a cinematic event, combining mythological roots with modern filmmaking scale as it heads toward its theatrical debut. Watch the official new trailer above.
