Muteesa 1 Royal University etched their name into the Pepsi University Football League history books with their maiden trophy in the competition since inception.

The Masaka city based institution overcame YMCA Comprehensive Institute with a hard fought 1-0 victory during the well attended finale at the Hamz stadium on 2nd May 2026.

Sam Mutambo’s powerful header past goalkeeper Kevin Ssenabulya was the all-important goal for the victors.

With two minutes to the opening half hour mark, Mutambo out-jumped the defenders to execute a powerful header off a telling delivery from roving right back Twaha Bukenya for the solitary strike well celebrated and defended.

Muteesa 1 Royal University managed the game well until the climax of the game played under sunny conditions.

At 5:36 pm, the final whistle by the day’s referee was well greeted with deafening cheers and celebrations.

This is Muteesa 1 Royal University’s first ever trophy in the Pepsi University Football League.
