Saint Lucia Police Report Nearly 50% Murder Detection Rate Amid Wave of Major Arrests

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has reported a nearly 50% detection rate for murders committed so far this year, revealing that 17 out of 35 recorded homicides have been solved.

The update was delivered during a police press conference on Thursday May 28, where the top brass detailed recent operational breakthroughs, major arrests, and the status of high-profile investigations across the island.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Luke Defreitas, who holds responsibility for Major Crimes, highly commended officers for their relentless work under heavy pressure.

“To investigate thirty-five murders in the space of five months and to be able to bring seventeen of them to some sort of resolution, arresting twenty-two persons does take an immense amount of effort and I will continue to underline that point,” ACP Defreitas emphasized.

Among the solved cases is a fatal shooting that rocked the community of Ciceron a few months ago. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at around 9:38 p.m., twenty-five-year-old Givanni Andrew Joseph sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest during a shooting incident. Though emergency personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire Service rushed him to the Owen King European Hospital (OKEU), he was later pronounced dead.

Police confirmed that while one individual had previously been charged for Joseph’s murder, a second wanted suspect was successfully apprehended during an early morning operation in Wiltons Yard on Thursday, May 28.

Police also shared that they are closing in on answers regarding the recent killing of Jevauny Roberts in Sunny Acres.

“We have made significant headway into the murder of Mr. Jevauny Roberts of Sunny Acres,” ACP Defreitas disclosed. A suspect currently remains in police custody and was actively interviewed by detectives on Thursday, May 28. As of Friday, law enforcement has not yet announced formal charges against the suspect or any other individual in connection to the case.

The press conference also highlighted the collaborative friction being applied to criminal elements by specialized arms of the force.

Inspector Shervon Matthieu, head of the Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit, detailed a recent tactical operation that resulted in the sweep of nearly a dozen suspects.

“There was another operation where nine individuals were arrested for offences stemming from murder, robbery, possession of controlled drugs, and possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply,” Inspector Matthieu stated.

Going forward, police officials explained that the structural workflow for these multi-offence busts will be strictly divided. The Major Crimes Unit will spearhead the core murder investigations, while the Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit will process the trailing drug possession, supply, and secondary offences.
